Five Fun Ideas To Help You Get Fit

After a challenging year and an indulgent Christmas and New Year, few people would blame you for just wanting to spend the winter months hibernating on the sofa instead of forcing yourself through exercises and getting fitter.

But there are lots of ways to be more active, from short bursts of cardio to everyday activities you don’t necessarily consider to be exercise, and you can have fun at the same time. Once you’ve got yourself up off the sofa and a little more active, then the aforementioned exercise won’t seem as daunting!

Here are some fun ideas to help you get moving this summer.

Stair climbing

Strengthen your leg muscles by taking the stairs. You can start small at home if it’s too cold and unpleasant to want to venture outside, and gradually work up to larger challenges. It is an upward lunge and a great way to strengthen muscles.

Walking

Walking is free, you already know how to do it, and there is always somewhere to go and do it, whether it’s to the supermarket instead of driving, a few laps around the park, or hiking in some of the UK’s beautiful countryside.

Skipping

10 minutes of skipping is equivalent to 30 mins of running. It’s something you can do almost anywhere, needing not much more than a skipping rope.

Gardening

Get out into the garden to boost your mood with incidental exercise. It gets you up and around, squatting, digging, carrying and ends up grating you a full-body workout. And it gets you in touch with nature.

Dog agility

Saving the best for last, dog agility involves you directing your best friend to manoeuvre through the obstacles, while you run alongside the course yourself. It’ll help get your dog fitter and happier as well as yourself. While you’re concentrating on the dog, you’ll be getting exercise without realising!
